Lighting Depth
The re-design would focus on the following four spaces:
Fjord Hall
Auditorium Garden
Garden
Large Open Area
The concepts behind the lighting design for the memorial museum are culturally and functionally inspired. The memorial museum is intended to function as a bridge to the public, displaying important events and topics from Nordic culture, history, and immigration. The minimalist architecture of the building is intended to reflect the cultural origin of these exhibits. The design strategy is therefore to integrate the lighting into the architecture, to reinforce these cultural and geographical concepts.
Electrical Depth
The current design for the building utilization voltage is 477Y/270V, 3 ø, 4 wires and 2500A. The Main Distribution Panel (MDP) feeds Secondary Distribution Panel 1 (SDP1), SDP2 and other panel boards. This electrical analysis contains some potential re-designs to the electrical system, which could improve the current design.
As I found, SDP1 takes up around 40% of the load with more than 80% of the current from the MDP. This increases the risk and the potential for security issues when power is shut off. SDP1 is 1600A, 208Y/120V, 4 ø and 4 wires, and supported by a single large transformer. Two re-configurations for SDP1 will be proposed:
-
Strategy 1: Split SDP1 into two or three Distribution Panelboards (DP).
-
Strategy 2: Split the single large transformer supporting SPD1 into multiple smaller transformers.
